Bandit Queen (1994, India)

This biodrama (in Hindi with subtitles) told the true-life legendary story of indomitable female folk outlaw-heroine Phoolan Devi (portrayed by Seema Biswas). It was based upon Devi's "dictated prison diaries," made after she was arrested, in real life, in 1983, and imprisoned for eleven years. [She ran for Parliament in 1996 and was assassinated in 2001 when she was just 37, reportedly to avenge the Behmai Massacre.]
It portrayed many scenes of her continued rape and sexual humiliation in her society. As a lower-caste Indian girl, she was married off at age 11 (Sunita Bhatt), and repeatedly 'raped' and ill-treated by her husband. After she left her husband (and was now regarded as a loose woman and fair game), she became defiant against forced female subservience, which led to her banishment as a social outcast from her patriarchal-based village.
After being arrested (framed for a robbery), raped, and beaten in prison, she was kidnapped by a local gang of bandits and again, raped, but won the respect and love of the gang's temporary leader Vikram Mallah (Nirmal Pandey), who became her lover and eventually made her co-leader (with resemblances to Bonnie and Clyde and Robin Hood tales). When jealous upper-caste Thakurs returned to rule the bandits in the village, they killed Mallah, gang-raped Devi (for three-days), and forced her to walk naked through the village's main streets to fetch water from the well. Her retaliatory vengeance took the form of a brutal massacre that killed 20 upper caste men in Behmai (in Uttar Pradesh) where she was assaulted. Her last defiant words in the film were: "I am Phoolan Devi, you sisterf--kers."
Due to its controversial nature, consciousness-raising and powerful indictment of Indian society (for its sexism, ritual misogyny, and the inequalities of the caste system), it was banned in India by censors due to its nudity, sex and violence. Devi herself issued her own lawsuit in an effort to prevent its release. Bandit Queen was financed by Britain's Channel Four, and received critical acclaim at the 1994 Cannes Film Festival, and at the 1995 New Directors New Films Festival in New York.

Mallika Sherawat, after leaving many disappointed at her performance on New Year’s eve at a suburban hotel in Mumbai, is caught in another controversy. A social worker has approached the Mumbai police seeking an action against the celebrity for wearing ‘obscene clothes’.

Mallika Sherawat recently hit the headlines when she walked off the stage even after charging Rs 75 lakh for 45 minutes-long performance on New Year’s eve at a Mumbai hotel.This time she is hit by an obscenity case for the clothes she wore at the same show. Sherawat wore a skin-suit for her 45-minute performance at the hotel, which has now left the social worker fuming.


The social worker Vinod Jain had seen Sherawat’s performance on certain television channels and was offended. While talking to the news agencies he quoted, “The actress was wearing obscene clothes and dancing in a manner that was very offensive to our culture and women.” He also said that he has approached the Santa Cruz police station to take up the matter since the hotel lies within its jurisdiction.He has sought the filing of a complaint against Sherawat and the organisers of the function under the IPC and the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act.
Additional Commissioner of Police Bipin Bihari said, “We received an application from Jain today. We will study the footage of the event and if the performance attracts the concerned sections of law, the complaint will be filed.”


However, the show was not worth, its charge said people who had coughed up between Rs 5,000 to Rs 9,000 for the show.

Mike Danton - The Blues Lagoon
In 2004, Mike Danton, a former St. Louis Blues player, enlisted the help of a 19-year-old girl to hire a hit man, who was actually a police dispatcher. The FBI was quickly alerted and Danton was convicted of plotting to commit murder, with the exact target still unknown. The details were muddy and the suspected motives were varied. Some believed Danton was trying to remove a gay lover threatening to out him, while others claimed he was attempting to end a miserable relationship with his svengali-like, mind-controlling agent, David Frost. People close to the situation came forward and disclosed how Frost manipulated Danton to the point where he became his hand puppet, even forcing Danton to sever his relationship with his parents. Given these strange details, the common hypothesis was that Frost was the target.

What makes it stranger: Frost's influence over Danton was frequently discussed but remained indistinct until the transcript of a prison telephone call was revealed to the public after Danton's arrest. At the end of the phone call, Frost asked Danton, "Do you love me?" and pressed him to reinforce his positive response twice.

Patrick Dennehy - The Basketball Diaries
The story started when Baylor basketball player Patrick Dennehy was reported missing in June 2003. A month later, after teammate Carlton Dotson was charged for murder, Dennehy's dead body was found in chest-high weeds. The police had been tipped off after Dotson told a cousin of his that he shot and killed Dennehy during an argument.

But the black eye didn't end there for Baylor University's basketball program, as Dennehy's girlfriend reported violations to the NCAA. Investigations revealed that head coach Dave Bliss had been improperly paying for Dennehy's tuition, had not reported players' failed drug tests, and had told players and coaches to lie to authorities by claiming that Dennehy had been dealing drugs. The school is now under probation until 2010.

What makes it stranger: In October 2004, Dotson was deemed to be psychologically incompetent and was sent to a mental hospital where he was evaluated. He was returned to jail after doctors doubted his accounts of hallucinations, and a week before his trial was to begin, with no plea bargain in hand, Dotson pleaded guilty in the death of Patrick Dennehy. He is currently serving a 35-year jail sentence.

The leg bone is connected to the knee bone, and knowing that, American figure skater Tonya Harding calculated that it would be more difficult for her rival to compete if she hired a man to take out her knee. Harding hired Shane Stant to put fellow American Nancy Kerrigan out of commission at the 1994 U.S. Figure Skating Championships, paving the way for Harding's victory. Soon after, her ex-husband cut a plea bargain deal in which he spilled the beans of their scheme to implicate Harding. When her time came, she had no choice but to plead guilty and received three years of probation, a $160,000 fine, a ban from U.S. figure skating, and was stripped of her 1994 title.

What makes it stranger: Tonya Harding didn't just climb into a grimy cave and disappear after the scandal, though, as she kept her face in the limelight with a pornographic sex tape, of which stills were posted in Penthouse magazine. She also had a brief boxing career that included a celebrity bout with well-known Paula Jones, and ran into the law on several occasions for drunk driving and domestic violence.

German HIV/AIDS ad causes controversy over images of Hitler and Stalin

The creators of an HIV/AIDS awareness advertisement that shows a woman having sex with a series of dictators, including Hitler and Stalin, defended it amid growing criticism.
The ad is due to run until World AIDS Day on 1 December. Das Comitee, a Hamburg advertising agency, said the advert's shock value was aimed at highlighting the dangers of unprotected sex at a time when public awareness about the risks was diminishing. "We knew the face we gave to the illness could not be a pretty one," said Dirk Silz, the creative director.
The advert was trying to "show the ugliness of the illness, not of AIDS victims", he added.
But organisations representing people with HIV and AIDS across Europe have condemned it, saying it only adds to the stigma they already suffer by appearing to put them on a par with mass murderers.
Others criticised the campaign for failing to offer any prevention advice, such as the use of condoms.
The 45-second advert, which is being launched on German television and in cinemas this week but cannot be broadcast before the 9pm watershed because of its content, shows a couple having sex. Towards the end the man's face turns into that of Adolf Hitler, along with the slogan "Aids is a mass murderer". In poster versions for the campaign the images of other dictators such as Joseph Stalin and Saddam Hussein have also been used.
The campaign was the brainchild of the German Aids awareness group, Regenbogen eV, and is due to run until World Aids day on December 1. Das Comitee said it had worked for nothing on the film, and had received a positive response so far. "If it wakes people up to the dangers of unprotected sex, we've been effective," Silz said.

In February 2008, some MNS activists clashed with Samajwadi Party (SP) party workers in Mumbai when Samajwadi Party supporters attended a rally at Shivaji Park, Dadar, Mumbai, a stronghold of MNS, where Samajwadi Party leader, Abu Asim Azmi made a fiery speech. After the clashes, 73 MNS activists and 19 SP workers were arrested by Mumbai Police for indulging in violence.[4]
On February 6, 2008, reportedly, about 200 Congress and NCP party workers quit the party and joined Maharashtra Navnirman Sena to support against MNS's so-called pro Marathi agenda.[5]
A petition was filed in the Patna civil court on February 8 against Thackeray for his alleged remarks over Chhath, Bihar's most popular festival of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.[6] Mr. Thackeray maintains he is not against Chhath Puja[7], but against the "show of arrogance" and "Politicization of Chut Puja" displayed by some people from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar on this occasion.

Iraq war

The Iraq War, also known as the Occupation of Iraq[34] or Operation Iraqi Freedom,[35] is an ongoing[36] military campaign which began on March 19, 2003,[37] with the invasion of Iraq by a multinational force led by troops from the United States and the United Kingdom beginning on March 20, 2003.[38]
Prior to the war, the governments of the United States and the United Kingdom claimed that Iraq's alleged possession of weapons of mass destruction (WMD) posed a threat to their security and that of their coalition/regional allies.[39][40][41] In 2002, the U.N. Security Council passed Resolution 1441 which called for Iraq to completely cooperate with U.N. weapon inspectors to verify that Iraq was not in possession of weapons of mass destruction and long-range missiles. Weapons inspectors found no evidence of WMD, but could not verify the accuracy of Iraq's weapon declarations.[42][43][44][45] At the time Hans Blix, the lead weapons inspector, advised the UN Security Council that while Iraq was cooperating in terms of access, Iraq's declarations with regards to WMD still could not be verified.[42][46]
After investigation following the invasion, the US-led Iraq Survey Group concluded that Iraq had ended its nuclear, chemical, and biological programs in 1991 and had no active programs at the time of the invasion, but that they intended to resume production if the Iraq sanctions were lifted.[47] Although some degraded remnants of misplaced or abandoned chemical weapons from before 1991 were found, they were not the weapons which had been the pretext for the invasion.[48] Some US officials also accused Iraqi President Saddam Hussein of harboring and supporting al-Qaeda,[49] but no evidence of an operation connection was ever found.[50][51]
Other reasons for the invasion included Iraq's financial support for the families of Palestinian suicide bombers,[52] Iraqi government human rights abuses,[53] and an effort to spread democracy to the country.[54][55]
The invasion of Iraq led to an occupation and the eventual capture of President Hussein, who was later executed by the new Iraqi government. Violence against coalition forces and among various sectarian groups soon led to the Iraqi insurgency, strife between many Sunni and Shia Iraqi groups, and al-Qaeda operations in Iraq.[56][57]
In June 2008, US Department of Defense officials claimed security and economic indicators began to show signs of improvement in what they hailed as significant and fragile gains.[58] Iraq was fifth on the 2008 Failed States Index,[59] and sixth on the 2009 list.[60]

After the declaration of ceasefire, Shastri and Pakistani President Muhammad Ayub Khan attended a summit in Tashkent (former USSR, now in modern Uzbekistan), organised by Kosygin. On 10 January 1966, Shastri and Khan signed the Tashkent Declaration.
The next day Shastri, who had suffered two heart attacks earlier, died supposedly of a heart attack at 1:32 AM. [7]. He was the only Indian Prime Minister, and indeed probably one of the few heads of government, to have died in office overseas.[20]

Although officially it was maintained that Shastri died of heart attack, his widow, Lalita Shastri kept alleging that her husband was poisoned. Many believed that Shastri's body turning blue was an evidence of his poisoning. Indeed a Russian butler attending to him was arrested on suspicion of poisoning Shastri, but was later absolved of charges.[21]
In 2009, when Anuj Dhar, author of CIA's Eye on South Asia, asked the Prime Minister's Office under an RTI plea (Right to Information Act), that Shastri's cause of death be made public, the PMO refused to oblige, citing that this could lead to harming of foreign relations, cause disruption in the country and cause breach of parliamentary privileges.[21]
The PMO did inform however that it had in its possession one document related to Shastri's death, but refused to declassify it. The government also admitted that no postmortem examination had been conducted on him in USSR, but it did have a report of a medical investigation conducted by Shastri's personal physician Dr. R.N. Chugh and some Russian doctors. Furthermore, the PMO revealed that there was no record of any destruction, or loss, of documents in the PMO having a bearing on Shastri's death. As of July 2009, the home ministry is yet to respond to queries whether India conducted a postmortem and if the government had investigated allegations of foul play.[21]
Circumstances of Shastri's death do indeed make a case for close inquiry. On the night of January 11, Shastri was awakened by a severe coughing fit. Dr. R.N. Chugh came to his aid. Shastri was unable to speak and pointed to a flask kept nearby. A staffer brought some water which Shastri sipped. Shortly afterward, Shastri became unconscious and attempts to revive him proved futile.
A cold case forensic enquiry which keeps these facts in consideration, could point to three causes - in order of probability.
(i) Myocardial Infarction (ordinarily known as Heart Attack)
(ii) Café Coronary (impaction of food in windpipe - in this case, drops of water)
(iii) Poisoning by some very quick acting poison, say cyanide although its probability is minimal.

All his lifetime, Shastri was known for honesty and humility. He was the first person to be posthumously awarded the Bharat Ratna, and a memorial "Vijay Ghat" was built for him in Delhi. Several educational institutes, Shashtri National Academy of Administration (Mussorie) is after his name these were some examples. The Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute was named after Shastri due to his role in promoting scholarly activity between India and Canada.[22]

The Indo-U.S. civilian nuclear agreement

The Indo-U.S. civilian nuclear agreement, known also as the Indo-U.S. nuclear deal, refers to a bilateral accord on civil nuclear cooperation between the United States of America and the Republic of India. The framework for this agreement was a July 18, 2005 joint statement by Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and then U.S. President George W. Bush, under which India agreed to separate its civil and military nuclear facilities and place all its civil nuclear facilities under International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) safeguards and, in exchange, the United States agreed to work toward full civil nuclear cooperation with India.[1] This U.S.-India deal took more than three years to come to fruition as it had to go through several complex stages, including amendment of U.S. domestic law, a civil-military nuclear Separation Plan in India, an India-IAEA safeguards (inspections) agreement and the grant of an exemption for India by the Nuclear Suppliers Group, an export-control cartel that had been formed mainly in response to India's first nuclear test in 1974. In its final shape, the deal places under permanent safeguards those nuclear facilities that India has identified as "civil" and permits broad civil nuclear cooperation, while excluding the transfer of "sensitive" equipment and technologies, including civil enrichment and reprocessing items even under IAEA safeguards. On August 18, 2008 the IAEA Board of Governors approved,[2] and on February 2, 2009, India signed an India-specific safeguards agreement with the IAEA.[3] Once India brings this agreement into force, inspections will begin in a phased manner on the 35 civilian nuclear installations India has identified in its Separation Plan.[4]

The nuclear deal was widely seen[by whom?] as a legacy-building effort by President Bush and Prime Minister Singh.[citation needed] But while the deal had to pass muster with the U.S. Congress twice (once when the Hyde Act was passed in late 2006 to amend U.S. domestic law and then when the final deal-related package was approved in October 2008), Singh blocked the Indian Parliament from scrutinizing the deal. The deal proved very contentious in India and threatened at one time to topple Singh's government, which survived a confidence vote in Parliament in July 2008 by roping in a regional party as a coalition partner in place of the leftist bloc that had bolted.

On August 1, 2008, the IAEA approved the safeguards agreement with India,[5] after which the United States approached the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) to grant a waiver to India to commence civilian nuclear trade.[6] The 45-nation NSG granted the waiver to India on September 6, 2008 allowing it to access civilian nuclear technology and fuel from other countries.[7] The implementation of this waiver makes India the only known country with nuclear weapons which is not a party to the Non Proliferation Treaty (NPT) but is still allowed to carry out nuclear commerce with the rest of the world.[8]

The US House of Representatives passed the bill on 28 September 2008.[9] Two days later, India and France inked a similar nuclear pact making France the first country to have such an agreement with India.[10] On October 1, 2008 the US Senate also approved the civilian nuclear agreement allowing India to purchase nuclear fuel and technology from the United States.[11][12] U.S. President, George W. Bush, signed the legislation on the Indo-US nuclear deal, approved by the U.S. Congress, into law, now called the United States-India Nuclear Cooperation Approval and Non-proliferation Enhancement Act, on October 8, 2008.[13] The agreement was signed by Indian External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee and his counterpart Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, on 10 October.[14][15]

Bangalore/New Delhi: India’s maiden lunar mission, Chandrayaan-1, found the strongest evidence yet that the moon isn’t the dry place it was thought to be, a finding that has been validated by a US space probe and which itself supported data that’s a decade old.

While the formation of an earth-like, liquid reservoir on the moon is impossible because of the weak atmosphere on Earth’s only natural satellite, there are chances of fresh and bigger chunks of water-ice forming over several years on the lunar surface.Although there’s little evidence to suggest that life existed on the moon ever, water on its surface in any form is necessary to set up a base—both to exploit the moon’s resources such as helium-3, a clean nuclear fuel, and setting up a transit point for possible exploration of planets beyond, such as Mars.
Ice that on heating vapourizes without the intermediary liquid state is called water-ice. Such ice naturally occurs in certain planets and their satellites.
“Certainly, it will increase man’s interest in the moon,” P. Sreekumar, chief scientist of the Chandrayaan-1 mission, said over phone, calling the finding a “major discovery” and adding that the theory of the origin of the moon may have to be re-examined.
The moon mineralogy mapper (M3), an instrument provided by the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (Nasa) and fitted on board Chandrayaan-1, made the discovery. Scientists validated the finding when Deep Impact probe, another Nasa spacecraft, flew by the moon in June.
Researchers also went back to data sent in 1999 by Cassini, a probe that passed the moon on its journey to Saturn.
India’s first lunar mission, launched on 22 October 2008, was aborted prematurely on 30 August after its power systems failed and it lost contact with earth. Mission objectives included finding evidence of water and minerals such as helium-3.
Scientists found a thin layer of hydrogen and oxygen—the two elements that make up water—bound together.
The finding is a boost for India’s ambitions for deep space exploration. The Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) will follow up by landing a rover on the moon by 2013 and send probes to asteroids and Mars in the future amid a renewed burst of global interest in exploring outer space.
India is targeting a human spaceflight by 2016 and eventually landing a man on the moon in the 2020s.
The US plans to return a man to the moon by 2020, around when China plans to send a manned mission.
Still, the most powerful evidence of water on the moon is likely to come from the Lunar CRater Observation and Sensing Satellite that will crash into the moon’s south pole on 9 October to sense the presence of water in the resulting debris, Lawrence Taylor of the University of Tennessee and one of the authors of three papers to be published in Science magazine on Friday, said in an email.
In the past, researchers have found signs of ice in the moon’s polar region, located in deep craters that have never seen sunlight, but the latest findings indicate water on its surface.
While the quantity is not precisely known, as much as 1,000 water molecule parts-per-million could be in the lunar soil, according to Carle Pieters, principal investigator of the M3 instrument and the author of one of the papers.
Harvesting one tonne of the top layer of the moon’s surface would yield as much as 32 ounces, or about a cup of water, according to scientists involved in the discovery.
“When we say ‘water on the moon’, we are not talking about lakes, oceans or even puddles,” Pieters said in a statement. “Water on the moon means molecules of water and hydroxyl that interact with molecules of rock and dust specifically in the top millimetres of the moon’s surface.”
Experts are also prescribing caution.
“There’s an expression that describes the moon as dry as a bone. In this case, the bone may be much wetter than the moon,” said Paul Lucey, a physicist at the University of Hawaii, in an email. “Somehow water trapped in the cold regions must be protected from ultraviolet rays (for a chunk of water ice to develop). Liquid water is not possible.”
Lucey has published a commentary on the findings in Science journal.
Last October, Junichi Haruyama of Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency and his team published a report in Science analysing images from the Japanese lunar probe, Selene or Kaguya, and stating that there was no water-ice at least on the surface of the lunar south pole, a region believed to hold water deposits.
Significantly, the latest studies suggest a new theory to explain how water-ice could have formed on the moon. Hydrogen, an essential component of water, comes from solar wind that reacts with the oxygen. Over time, these drops of water gradually move towards the poles and form chunks of water-ice, said Jessica Sunshine of the University of Maryland, and one of the authors of the papers published in Science.

Indian scientists stir controversy over nuclear capability of New Delhi

Barely a week after an Indian atomic scientist raised a major controversy by claiming that the country's nuclear tests in Pokhran in 1998 were not "as successful as claimed", a couple of other top Indian scientists have also added fuel to the fire by calling for further tests to establish India as a true nuke power.

Experts say that the claims of atomic scientist K. Santhanam, who was associated with the Pokhran nuclear tests, and P.K. Iyengar, the former head of India's main nuclear body Atomic Energy Commission, have only stirred up doubts about India's nuclear capability not only in the "volatile" South Asian region but also in the world arena.

"Their colleagues have already contradicted the claims. Even the Indian government has refuted the claims, saying that the nuclear tests were successful. So, raising a sensitive issue like this at this time means an unnecessary controversy that puts India's nuclear capability at stake in South Asia, with Pakistan always trying to undermine it," said Delhi-based defense analyst R.K. Basu.

"Pakistan may take advantage of the controversy. Recent reports have suggested that Pakistan has been using U.S. security aid to beef up its military against India by illegally modifying the Harpoon anti-ship missile and maritime surveillance aircraft P-3C for land attacks against New Delhi. Raising the issue of its nuke capability now may turn out to be a threat to India only," he added.

In fact, blowing the lid off the claims by India about the success of the nuclear tests, Santhanam, who was director for 1998test site preparations in Pokhran, had said last week that the yield for the thermonuclear test or hydrogen bomb in popular usage was much lower than what was claimed by the then BJP-led National Democratic Alliance government.

"Based upon the seismic measurements and expert opinion from world over, it is clear that the yield in the thermonuclear device test was much lower than what was claimed. I think it is well documented and that is why I assert that India should not rush into signing the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty (CTBT)," Santhanam told an English daily here.

And, political analyst Professor Ajay Singh claimed that Santhanam's assessment will bolster India's opposition to signing the CTBT.

"The issue is likely to come up in the discussions when Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh goes to the U.S. in November. India has opposed CTBT on grounds that it is discriminatory and divides the world into the nuclear haves and have-nots. So, this could also be the reason, though it has led to a major controversy," he said.

Contended political scientist Professor S.K. Gupta: "Why blame Santhanam only? Even Iyengar bolstered his claim by saying that he had already made it clear in 2002 that India's nuclear tests were inconclusive and ambiguous. His calls for more Indian nuclear tests raise fear in the volatile sub-continent at a time when the domestic scenario in Pakistan is not up to the mark."

Supporting his colleague Santhanam, Iyengar had said in an interview: "If India wants to declare itself as a nuclear power and confirm to the military that you have all the means of designing a thermo-nuclear device which can go into a missile, which can be dropped from an aircraft or can be launched from a submarine, you need many more tests."

Indian nuclear weapons program started in 1964. The country blasted five nuclear devices in Pokhran, three on May 11 and two on May 13, 1998, which led to international sanctions against the country.

"Now, being an Indian scientist how could one possibly denigrate India's nuclear capability. Even if the tests were not successful, the scientists should not have said it in public," said Ajay Singh.

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan—ISI Chief Shuja Pasha has summoned his Indian Counterpart, K C Verma for a meeting through the Indian defense attaché in the Indian High Commission in Islamabad.
The Indian government has not responded to ISI’s request yet, and is reportedly assessing the implications of a possible meeting carefully.
After the July 16 Sharm el-Sheikh joint statement between India and Pakistan, India fears that Pakistan would use this meeting as a forum to expose Indian connections with two terror leaders and their foreign-funded terror armies: Brahamdagh Bugti and his BLA [Balochistan Liberation Army] and Baitullah Mehsud’sTehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan.
Pakistan has piles of evidence against Indian consulates in Afghanistan being used to fund terrorism in Pakistan through the TTP as well as the terrorists who claim to be self-styled representatives of Pakistan’s Baloch vast Baloch heritage.
Pakistan’s DAWN reports that a dossier containing proof of India’s involvement in “subversive activities” in Pakistan was handed over by Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani to his Indian counterpart Manmohan Singh during their meeting at Sharm el-Sheikh last week.
The evidence has also been shared with the US and Afghanistan, with Kabul being asked to prevent the use of its territory for disruptive activities against Pakistan.
“Although the information given to India is being kept highly secret, broad outlines of the dossier available with Dawn reveal details of Indian contacts with those involved in attacks on the Sri Lankan cricket team and the Manawan police station,” the newspaper said.
“Operatives of RAW who remained in touch with the perpetrators of the attacks have been identified and proof of their interaction has been attached,” it added.
A description of Indian arms and explosives used in the attack on the Sri Lankan team has been made part of the dossier, besides which the names and particulars of the perpetrators, who illegally entered Pakistan from India and joined their accomplices who had reached Lahore from Waziristan, have been mentioned, the report said.
The dossier is also said to list the safe houses being run by RAW in Afghanistan where terrorists are trained and launched for missions in Pakistan.
“The dossier also broadly covers the Indian connection in terror financing in Pakistan.
A substantial part of the shared material deals with the Balochistan insurgency and Indian linkages with the insurgents, particularly Brahamdagh Bugti, Burhan and Sher Khan,” Dawn said.

Ahmadinejad reiterates Iran right to nuke program

Iran will persist with its nuclear program despite international concerns, the country's president said Tuesday, as the world awaited Tehran's response to a nuclear deal that could ease tensions with the West.
President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has long insisted Iran has a right to pursue its nuclear ambitions, but the remarks Tuesday were his first since the U.N.-drafted offer was put forth last week.
Ahmadinejad did not directly refer to the draft, but his comments could indicate Iran's hardening stance toward the U.N. proposal. Tehran is expected to respond to the offer this week.
The plan envisages Iran sending out most of uranium abroad for enrichment, which would reduce its stockpile and limit Iran's ability to make a nuclear weapon.
Ahmadinejad on Tuesday lashed out at archenemy Israel, which is believed to have nuclear weapons.
"When an illegal regime has atomic weapons, it's impossible to block others from the right to have peaceful nuclear energy," Ahmadinejad said during a meeting with visiting Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
The remarks came as U.N. inspectors are visiting a formerly secret uranium enrichment site in Iran.
Fears about the nature of Iran's nuclear program were heightened in September with the disclosure of a uranium enrichment facility near the holy city of Qom. U.N. inspectors made their first visit to the site on Sunday, kicking off a three-day mission that will include taking soil samples from the site. No results on their findings were expected until they leave Iran later this week.
Iran agreed to the inspections during a landmark meeting with the U.S. and other world powers at the beginning of October in Geneva, where the idea of Tehran shipping uranium to Russia for further enrichment was first raised.
The draft U.N. plan was formalized last week after Iran held talks in Vienna with the United States, Russia and France.
Under the draft, Iran is required to send 2,420 pounds (1,100 kilograms) of low-enriched uranium to Russia in one batch by the end of the year in order to receive the nuclear fuel it needs for a research reactor that makes medical isotopes.
On Tuesday, Ahmadinejad also praised Erdogan's stance over Israeli-Palestinian conflict, saying the Turkish leader's "clear stance toward the Zionist regime has had a positive impact on the world of Islam."
At an international conference in January, Erdogan strongly condemned Israel's offensive in Gaza and the steep Palestinian casualties inflicted there. The Iranian leader is known for his anti-Israeli remarks since 2005, when he said the Jewish state should be "wiped off the map."
Iran's stance on the plan has so far been unclear.
Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki hinted Monday Tehran could agree to ship some of its low-enriched uranium to Russia for processing as reactor fuel — but also left the possibility open that Iran may snub the proposal altogether.
A partial acquiescence to the offer is unlikely to defuse the controversy or allay Western concerns over Tehran's nuclear ambitions.

One might say that it is a geo-political, socio-economic debate, and there are a million reasons to why Kashmir should be handed to one country or another, but why have the civilians of the country not been asked to their fate. India has made headlines as an emerging superpower, a land of high-tech multimillionaires and a vast new market for American goods. But there is another India too, and it is not just the one of villages and ox carts that has always been best known in the West.

This is the disturbing India of the Hindu widow, a woman traditionally shunned as bad luck and forced to live in destitution on the edge of society. Her husband's death is considered her fault, and she has to shave her head, shun hot food and sweets and never remarry. In the pre-independence India of the 1930's, the tradition applied even to child brides of 5 or 6 who had been betrothed for the future by their families but had never laid eyes on their husbands.
Into this milieu now comes the director Deepa Mehta with "Water," a lush new film that opened on Friday, about Chuyia, an 8-year-old widow in the India of 1938. She has barely met her husband but is banished by her parents to a decrepit widows' house on the edge of the Ganges. Chuyia is left there sobbing, in one of the most heart-wrenching scenes in the film, but she insists her parents will soon return for her.
Even as it becomes clear that they won't, Chuyia's spirited, rebellious streak shines through, and she begins to change the way the other widows in the house view the world, as the independence movement of Mahatma Gandhi swirls around them. Chuyia has a particularly powerful effect on two people: Shakuntula, who begins to question a Hindu faith that subjects women who have lost husbands to such degrading lives, and Kalyani, a beautiful young widow who has been forced into prostitution by the head of the widow house. As the film unfolds, Kalyani ignores the taboos to fall tragically in love with a handsome young Gandhi nationalist.
The sorrowful film is nonetheless a triumph of conscience over blind faith, and a powerful message about how much, and how little, has changed in India. "I think it's slightly naïve for me to think that films make a difference," Ms. Mehta, the director, said in a telephone interview from Toronto, where she lives half the year, when she is not in New Delhi. "But what it can do is start a dialogue and provoke discussion."
The film has provoked far more than that. In January 2000 Ms. Mehta was forced to shut down production of "Water" in Varanasi, one of India's holy cities on the banks of the Ganges, after Hindu nationalists protested that the film was anti-Hindu. Some 500 demonstrators took to the streets, ransacked the set and burned Ms. Mehta in effigy. She appealed to the state government for help, but fearing more violence, local officials asked the film crew to leave.
"In retrospect," Ms. Mehta said in a director's statement that accompanies the release of the film, " 'Water' reflected what was taking place in India in some form or other: the rise of Hindu fundamentalism and high intolerance for anything or anybody that viewed it with skepticism. Therefore, we were a soft and highly visible target."
Ms. Mehta was not able to resurrect "Water" until four years later, and only then in neighboring Sri Lanka, where she shot under a fake title, "Full Moon," so as not attract attention. By then Ms. Mehta had to recast the main characters. Lisa Ray, one of India's top models, took the role of the beautiful young widow Kalyani, and Seema Biswas, known in India for her role in the movie "Bandit Queen," plays Shakuntula. John Abraham, a Bollywood superstar, portrays Kalyani's forbidden lover. For Chuyia, Ms. Mehta auditioned 50 girls but chose Sarala, an 8-year-old from a tiny village on the Sri Lanka coast who had never before acted.
Another problem was that Sri Lanka did not have the bathing ghats, or carved stone steps, that lead down to the Ganges, the purifying site of daily Hindu prayers and cremations. But Dilip Mehta, the film's production designer, recreated the ghats on a stretch of a deserted riverbank just south of the Sri Lankan capital, Colombo. The ghats were essential to a film that uses water as a symbol of both purity and death.
Ms. Mehta, 55, is no stranger to Hindu protests. Her 1996 film about a lesbian relationship, "Fire," the first in a trilogy, enraged fundamentalists in India, who burned down movie theaters. Her 1998 film, "Earth," about the 1947 partition of India, caused no controversy, but it did contain scenes of the butchery that occurred between Muslims and Hindus at the time.
Ms. Mehta said she got the idea for "Water" a decade ago, when she was in Varanasi directing a one-hour television episode of "The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles" for George Lucas. One morning on the ghats she was horrified to see a widow scampering on all fours searching for her glasses. When the widow couldn't find them, she sat down on her haunches to cry, completely ignored by the people around her.
"It wasn't shock, but I felt totally ignorant," said Ms. Mehta, whose father was a film distributor in the Indian city of Amritsar and graduated from the University of New Delhi. "Where the hell had I been?" Her own grandmother was a widow, but "she ruled the house," Ms. Mehta said. "She was the matriarch."
Today there are about 33 million widows in India, according to the 2001 census, and many in the rural areas are still treated like the outcasts in the film.
"All the traditions have eased, but they're still there," said Martha Chen, a lecturer in public policy at Harvard's John F. Kennedy School of Government and author of "Perpetual Mourning: Widowhood in Rural India," published in 2000. "I met widows whose main lament was that at the weddings of their own children, they had to sit in the shadows."
"Water" has been screened in New Delhi and at the Kerala and Mumbai film festivals, and there are also plans for "Water" to open in July at 90 theaters in India, riots or no.
"I don't want to think about it," Ms. Mehta said. "I hope it all works out."

The Pyramid of the Sun, with an estimated weight of three million tons, is much larger than the Pyramid of the Moon, and was also built earlier.   Each side is 222 meters long and it's over 70 meters high, making it the third largest pyramid in the world by volume, after the Great Pyramid of Cheops in Egypt and the unrestored pyramid at the Mexican city of Cholula.   Unfortunately because of the building method a lot of reconstruction was needed to get it to its current state, and there's considerable uncertainty about its original appearance

The date December 21st, 2012 A.D. (13.0.0.0.0 in the Long Count), represents an extremely close conjunction of the Winter Solstice Sun with the crossing point of the Galactic Equator (Equator of the Milky Way) and the Ecliptic (path of the Sun), what that ancient Maya recognized as the Sacred Tree. This is an event that has been coming to
resonance very slowly over thousands and thousands of years. It will come to resolution at exactly 11:11 am GMT.


The Tzolkin is a 260-day calendar based around the period of human gestation. It is composed of 20 day-signs, each of which has 13 variations, and was (and still is) used to determine character traits and time harmonics, in a similar way to Western astrology. The Maya also used a 365-day calendar called the Haab, and a Venus calendar, plus others. They measured long time periods by means of a Long Count, in which one 360-day year  (a "Tun"), consists of 18 x 20-day "months" ("Uinals"). Twenty of these Tuns is a Katun; 20 Katuns is a Baktun (nearly 400 years); and 13 Baktuns adds up to a "Great Cycle" of 1,872,000 days, ( 5200 Tuns, or about 5125 years).
Mayan scholars have been attempting to correlate the Long Count with our Western Gregorian calendar, since the beginning of this century. There has been massive variation in the suggested correlations, but as early as 1905, Goodman suggested a correlation only 3 days from the most popular one today. Known as the GMT correlation, or "correlation # 584283", this was finalized in 1950, and puts the start of the Great Cycle    ( day 0.0.0.0.0)  on 11th August 3114 BC, and the end-date (known as 13.0.0.0.0.) as 21st December 2012
Jose Arguelles has pointed out that  the Tzolkin is a harmonic of the Great Cycle, and can be used to map history, as if it is measuring not individual gestation but species gestation, since 5 Great Cycles add to exactly 26,000 Tuns; the "Grand Year" or precession of the equinoxes - a higher harmonic of 260.
NOTE:  The astronomer Philip Plait has stated very clearly that the Mayan calendar does not end in 2012 at all, that it is like the odometer on your car, as each section of the odometer reaches 9 and then clicks over to 0, the next number to it starts a new cycle, so that when all the numbers again reach 0 all the way across the odometer - the last number will change from 1 to 2 and the new cycle starts all over again.

Sunspot Cycles; Adrian Gilbert and Maurice Cotterell, in their book the Mayan Prophecies, say that the end of the Great Cycle is the culmination of a series of long-term sunspot cycles which will flip the sun’s magnetic field, causing earthquakes and flooding on earth. Moreover, the changing magnetic field will alter the endocrine production of  the pineal gland. According to John Major Jenkins, it will take 36 years to precess through the Galactic equator.  The Galactic Alignment "zone" is
1998 +/- 18 years = 1980 to 2016.

[So why are we worried?]
Generally speaking, scientifically accepted records of sunspot activity do seem to be heading for a climax in the near future.
Note: Real science is predicting the next/current sun cycle to be the worst in 50 years. The first two sunspot's of 2006 are moving in reverse direction.
 

August 15, 2006: On July 31st, a tiny sunspot was born. It popped up from the sun's interior, floated around a bit, and vanished again in a few hours. On the sun this sort of thing happens all the time and, ordinarily, it wouldn't be worth mentioning. But this sunspot was special: It was backward. "We've been waiting for this," says David Hathaway, a solar physicist at the Marshall Space Flight in Huntsville, Alabama. "A backward sunspot is a sign that the next solar cycle is beginning."

"Backward" means magnetically backward. Hathaway explains:
Sunspots are planet-sized magnets created by the sun's inner magnetic dynamo. Like all magnets in the Universe, sunspots have north (N) and south (S) magnetic poles. The sunspot of July 31st popped up at solar longitude 65o W, latitude 13o S. Sunspots in that area are normally oriented N-S. The newcomer, however, was S-N, opposite the norm.
 

This tiny spot of backwardness matters because of what it might foretell: A really big solar cycle. Solar activity rises and falls in 11-year cycles, swinging back and forth between times of quiet and storminess. Right now the sun is quiet. "We're near the end of Solar Cycle 23, which peaked way back in 2001," explains Hathaway. The next cycle, Solar Cycle 24, should begin "any time now," returning the sun to a stormy state.
Satellite operators and NASA mission planners are bracing for this next solar cycle because it is expected to be exceptionally stormy, perhaps the stormiest in decades. Solar Cycles: Past and FutureBut when will Solar Cycle 24 begin?
"Maybe it already did--on July 31st," says Hathaway. The first spot of a new solar cycle is always backwards. Solar physicists have long known that sunspot magnetic fields reverse polarity from cycle to cycle. N-S becomes S-N and vice versa. "The backward sunspot may be the first sunspot of Cycle 24."
It sounds exciting, but Hathaway is cautious on several fronts:
First, the sunspot lasted only three hours. Typically, sunspots last days, weeks or even months. Three hours is fleeting in the extreme. "It came and went so fast, it was not given an official sunspot number," says Hathaway. The astronomers who number sunspots didn't think it worthy!
Second, the latitude of the spot is suspicious. New-cycle sunspots almost always pop up at mid-latitudes, around 30o N or 30o S. The backward sunspot popped up at 13o S. "That's strange."
These odd-isms stop Hathaway short of declaring the onset of a new solar cycle. "But it looks promising," he says.
Even if Cycle 24 has truly begun, "don't expect any great storms right away." Solar cycles last 11 years and take time to build up to fever pitch. For a while, perhaps one or two years, Cycle 23 and Cycle 24 will actually share the sun, making it a hodgepodge of backward and forward spots. Eventually, Cycle 24 will take over completely; then the fireworks will really begin.

On the winter solstice of 2012, the noonday Sun exactly conjuncts
the crossing point of the sun's ecliptic with the galactic plane,
while also closely conjuncting the exact the center of the galaxy.

 We're not from Milky Way
 
Astronomical updates of 2012 are pouring in.  We are grateful for the Mayan Calendar for pointing the way. It is a good map but now, thru science,  we are starting to see the actual landscape.

Have you ever looked out into the night sky and seen the Milky Way Galaxy? Did you notice the obvious tilt?  It is at a steep angle to the straight line of the horizon. Why?


It turns out that our solar system appears to belong to another galaxy that is colliding with the Milky Way.  This was recently discovered when scientists were trying to figure sources for "dark matter" that would account for forces we can measure but not see visibly.  Using near-infrared (wavelengths of light outside human eye and optical telescopes) a huge sister galaxy circling the Milky Way was discovered. It's called the Sagittarius dwarf galaxy (SGR for short).
 
For those keen on the 2012 data, this is the reason our entry point to the Rift, center, heart (HunabKu) of the Milky Way is thru Sagittarius.  The two collide at that point. This explains why our solar system is at an angle to the plane of the galaxy and also why we dip above and below that center line every 12,000 yrs or so. 

But the trail gets hotter - literally.  Moon shots from the 1960s revealed glass on the moon. Glass is made from intense bursts of heat on sand.  The event happened within the last 30,000yrs ago.   Ancient petrogrpahs of primirtive people (archeological carvings) from that era  (12,000+y.a.) show the sun causing extreme energy bursts changing earth atmosphere.

Next clue - the current 11 year Sun Spot Cycle has passed the minimum (sun spot activity should have begun over a year ago and has not for the first time ever). This appears to be caused by a gravitation field influencing the sun.


 
The only field large enough would be from - the center of the galaxy.

What does all this mean?  Putting it all together, it implies the 2011-2012 event is a natural cycle of solar maximum bursts which could scorch all or parts of the earth.   How is the world preparing?

Russia is building a huge underground city to hold 60,000 people, the YAMANTAU Mt Complex.


Norway has already built enough facility for their entire population to go under ground.  Sweden. working with NATO has created an underground seed bank (a modern day Noah's Ark).

The zodiac cross rotates during the precession of the equinoxes against the backdrop of the Galactic Cross with one revolution in 26.000 years (length of a Great Year or Platonic Year). The Galactic Cross rotates with one revolution in 220 million years (time of the revolution of the Solar System around the Galactic Centre). That’s why the Galactic Cross is regarded as a fixated cross during a precession cycle, its rotation can be neglected.
The two crosses (Zodiac Cross and Galactic Cross) form an eight pointed cross and four times during a precession cycle they overlap. The moments of conjunction are called a Great Celestial Conjunction (for details see our paper ‘Crucifying the Earth on the Galactic Cross’ - Smeykavov, Wicherink 2006). It’s the cosmic event that is associated with John Major Jenkins Galactic Alignment. The next one is occurring right now during era-2012 on the winter and summer solstices

The points Z and Z’ in the picture above are the intersections of the ecliptic with the Galactic Plane and these crossings have been associated by Schele with the Maya Sacred Tree, they are the Gemini-Taurus (Z’) nexus and Sagittarius-Scorpio (Z) nexus. As we will demonstrate later in the Maya artefacts these points are often depicted as two separate crosses XX. We add to Schele’s observations that the Maya Sacred Tree is also identical to the red cross in the picture above, the intersection of the Galactic Plane with the Solar System’s plane and it’s perpendicular axis to this intersection. This cross is the cross that occurs in the Fejérváry-Mayer Codex with the Sacred Tree symbols on it
The Galactic Cross and the Maya Sacred Tree therefore are interchangeable concepts!
 
We have found abundant X, XX and 8 pointed crosses in the Maya artefacts and in all cases they are associated with the Maya Sacred Tree! These examples express the idea of a rotating zodiac cross against the backdrop of a Galactic Cross. The occurrence of these crosses in the Maya artefacts and their association with the Maya Sacred Tree in their astronomical context can be explained by the Earth Cross and the Galactic Cross as proposed in this article.

Earth Cross

One could argue that the Maya couldn’t possibly have understood that the Zodiac’s equinox and solstice axis form a cross and that this cross rotates along the ecliptic during a precession cycle. We have named this cross in our paper ‘Crucifying the Earth on the Galactic Cross’ the Earth Cross.
The crosses under the armpits of the Maize God depicted at the Lower Temple of the Jaguars at Chichen Itza represent the crossing places of the ecliptic and the Milky Way (as we will demonstrate later). But there is one very remarkable detail about this picture. Left and right of the face in the centre we see two crosses, one vertical aligned, and one slanted. They suggest the rotational movement of the four pointed cross (the Zodiac Cross).

The Milky Way Galaxy is the inspiration for the symbol of the Ouroboros. Myth refers to a serpent of light residing in the heavens. The Milky Way is this serpent, and viewed at galactic central point near sagittarius, this serpent eats its own tail.
A new crop circle has just appeared on 7-27-08 that is similar to the symbols above:

We are from another galaxy in the process of joining with the Milky Way. The Milky Way is actually not our parent galaxy. The mystery of why the Milky Way has always been sideways in the night sky has never been answered -- until now.

"This first full-sky map of Sagittarius shows its extensive interaction with the Milky Way," Majewski said. "Both stars and star clusters now in the outer parts of the Milky Way have been 'stolen' from Sagittarius as the gravitational forces of the Milky Way nibbled away at its dwarf companion. This one vivid example shows that the Milky Way grows by eating its smaller neighbors."
The study's map of M giants depicts 2 billion years of Sagittarius stripping by the Milky Way, and suggests that Sagittarius has reached a critical phase in what had been a slow dance of death.
"After slow, continuous gnawing by the Milky Way, Sagittarius has been whittled down to the point that it cannot hold itself together much longer," said 2MASS Science Team member and study co-author Martin Weinberg of the University of Massachusetts. "We are seeing Sagittarius at the very end of its life as an intact system."
Does this mean we are at a unique moment in the life of our galaxy? Yes and no.
"Whenever possible, astronomers appeal to the principle that we are not at a special time or place in the universe," Majewski said. "Because over the 14 billion-year history of the Milky Way it is unlikely that we would just happen to catch a brief event like the death of Sagittarius, we infer that such events must be common in the life of big spiral galaxies like our own. The Milky Way probably dined on a number of dwarf galaxy snacks in the past."
On the other hand, Majewski and his colleagues have been surprised by the Earth's proximity to a portion of the Sagittarius debris.
"For only a few percent of its 240 million-year orbit around the Milky Way galaxy does our Solar System pass through the path of Sagittarius debris," Majewski said. "Remarkably, stars from Sagittarius are now raining down onto our present position in the Milky Way. Stars from an alien galaxy are relatively near us. We have to re-think our assumptions about the Milky Way galaxy to account for this contamination."
The new findings will help astronomers measure the total mass of the Milky Way and Sagittarius galaxies, and probe the quantity and distribution of the invisible dark matter in these systems.

For a long time the professional scientific community has resisted the thought
that the different time periods of the Mayan calendar are driving cosmic and human evolution through their influence on consciousness. While of course a large number of professional Mayanists have worked with elucidating the structure of the calendar system of the ancient Maya there has always been a resistance to acknowledging that there would be a reality behind these energies. Hence, even though it may not have been said so directly these cosmic energies have often been regarded as some kind of superstitions.

A beginning of a shift in attitude now however seems to be on its way. At an international conference in Systems Theory at the University of Liege in Belgium Professor Tadeja Jere Lazanski won the award for best scientific paper in the CASYS'09 (Computing Anticipatory Systems) conference:

The paper outlines the nine levels of evolution that are developed according to the Mayan calendar system and places them in the context of Systems Theory. In short Dr Jere Lazanski is driving the thesis that what the ancient Maya saw as a plan driven by divine energies is what now is generally referred to as the big picture.

This initial breakthrough into mainstream science of the true Mayan calendar system of Nine Underworlds and Thirteen Heavens is very significant and it opens for the first time a road to discussing not only the Mayan calendar, but also the many evolutionary progressions that it describes in certain scholarly settings.

It is also noteworthy that, in contrast, the urban legend of a "galactic alignment" as the basis for the Mayan Long Count for good reasons has consistently been rejected by professional scientists (see for instance Vincent Malmström,

That the breakthrough into established science of the True Mayan calendar system first happened in Systems Theory is understandable. It is only from the perspective of the whole system that the Mayan calendar can be seen to make sense and any specialized science such as professional Mayanism, history, biology or physics would have to undergo so significant changes in its methodology and general approaches in order to recognize the validity of the Mayan calendar system that this would only happen against a much greater resistance.

I congratulate Professor  Jere Lazanski for her contribution to science and feel this recognition indicates the beginning of an increased openness in the scientific community to the deeper meaning of the Mayan calendar.

On page 35, he states, "The early Zapotec capital of Monte Alban is located on a mountaintop outside of present day Ozxaca. Most structures at Monte Alban are oriented 4 degrees to 8 degrees east of north. Structure 1,  a strange arrow-shaped building is different. Archaeoastronomers Anthony Aveni and David Linsley determined that this building loosely points to the setting positions of the five bright stars of the Southern Cross. This alignment occurred in the precessional era of 250 B.C.  when these structures were built. Overall, the loose 3 degree range of the alignment is not very impressive. However, Aveni noted another alignment that yields more interesting results. The perpendicular to Structure J's baseline shoots through what was an opening or doorway in Structure P points northeast to where the bright star Capella was seen to rise in the processional era of 275 B.C.  During this time Capella made its first reappearance in the predawn sky (its heliacal rise) on May 8, which is the first solar zenith passage date at the latitude of Monte Alban. Solar zenith passages (when the sun passes through the zenith at high noon) were important indicators of the zenith center and told the Mesoamerican farmer when the rainy season was about to commence. Solar zenith passages occur only within the Tropics, that is between latitudes 23.5 degrees S and 23.5 degrees N. Amazingly platform Structure B through which the Capella observations were sighted, houses Monte Alban's famous zenith tube. This vertical tube leads into an underground chamber where zenith passage measurements of the sun and stars could be made. Zenith tubes have been found at other sites, such as Xochicalco in Central Mexico.
They probably understood that the zenith center was located in 'time' as well as in space, because solar zenith passages occur only twice every year.  The solar year (the haab), the tzolkin and intervals between zenith passages all contributed to the ancient Mesoamerican's developing calendric cosmology. It was the synchronization in time of key points in these different cycles that would define the center of time and space. However, it might be better to say that key alignments in large time cycles open the doorway to the center of spacetime, rather than define that center.
Teotihuacan, the great Toltec metropolis where the Fifth sun was born, also contains evidence of having been constructed according to an astronomical plan. Several scholars have argued that an alignment with the Pleiades was responsible for the founding orientation of Teotihuacan. The axis perpendicular to the famous Street of the dead pointed to the setting position of the Pleiades. The two "pecked crosses" that scholars believe were used to lay out the city lie along this axis. The pecked cross in the group of structures called the Viking Group is just east of the Street of the Dead, and the Cerro Colorado pecked cross is some distance to the west.
John Major Jenkins tells us this in his introduction:
"The eclipse is the path traveled by the sun, moon, and planets through the sky. Twelve constellations lie along the ecliptic, and the sun passes through all twelve during the course of one year. The ecliptic cross over the Milky Way at a 60 degree angle near the constellation Sagittarius. As such, it forms a cross with the Milky Way, and this cosmic cross was called the Sacred Tree by the ancient Maya. (The cross form was also known as the "crossroads."  Amazingly, the center of this cosmic cross, that is right where the ecliptic crosses over the Milky Way is exactly where the December solstice sun will be in A.D. 2012. This alignment occurs only once every 25,800 years.
"The Milky Way is observed as a bright, wide band of stars arching through the sky. In the clear skies of ancient Mesoamerica, many dark, blotchy areas could be observed along the Milky Way's length. These are "dark cloud" formations caused by interstellar dust. The most prominent of these is called the "dark-rift" or the "Great Cleft" of the Milky Way. It looks like a dark road running along the Milky Way, and it points right at the cosmic crossing point, the center of the Maya Sacred Tree, right where the sun will be in 2012!  The Maya called this dark-rift the Black Road, or the Road to the Underworld. They seem to have imagined it as a portal to another world, and the December solstice sun can enter it only in A.D. 2012.
"The area of the sky where all of these symbols and celestial objects converge is the center of our Milky Way Galaxy. This was perhaps the most astounding thing I discovered. The par of the Milky Way that the December solstice sun will conjunct is also where the center of our Galaxy (the Galactic Center) is located. It is the cosmic womb from which new stars are born, and from which everything in our Galaxy, including humans, came.
In the cosmos - 1 minute time is not going to make that big a difference
considering the vast amount of space between our sun and the center of the Milky Way
as seen from Earth.  The original calendar was based on Mayan information at a
specific temple as yet unidentified as exact position.

THE ASTROLOGY OF DECEMBER 2012: DISASTER, ASCENSION OR BOTH?

According to many prophecies something important is about to happen in 2012. In 2012 the centre of the Galaxy is at 0 degree of the Western zodiacal sign Capricorn. 0 degree Capricorn is the point of the zodiac where the Sun is during the December solstice.  
At December 21, 11.12 GMT during the December solstice the Sun is at the exact centre of the Galaxy. According to the Mayas the center of the Galaxy is the cosmic womb: the place of dead, transformation, regeneration and rebirth. This moment shows the end of their calendar.
To know more about what this means it is interesting to make an astrological chart of the December solstice of 2012. Below you see a chart for 21 December 12.12 Middle European Time (11.12 GMT), Amsterdam, Netherlands. The planetary pattern will be the same for all locations only the ascendant and house division will be different.
HIGHLIGHTS OF THE ASTROLOGICAL CHART The Sun is at 0 degrees Capricorn, the point of the December solstice. It makes a sextile to Neptune, right at the beginning of Pisces. This is an almost exact sextile. The orb is less then half a degree. This aspect can point towards a spiritual experience, a loss or both.
The most important configuration is a yod which we find in the chart. This is also called the Finger of God. It looks like an arrow in the chart and it indicates change and transformations. .
The yod consists of: 1. A quincunx (150 degree aspect) between Jupiter and Pluto.
2. A quincunx between Jupiter and Saturn.
3. A central opposition (180 degree aspect) made between Jupiter and the Mercury/Venus conjunction.
The two quincunxes are almost exact, they have an orb of less then half a degree. In fact the quincunx between Jupiter and Pluto is exact at December 21 2012.   
THE MEANING OF THE ASTROLOGICAL CHART
Pluto is the planet of radical transformation, death and rebirth.
Saturn is the planet of the earthly realm and of learning experiences, especially those of a more painful nature. 
Jupiter is the planet of expansion. It is the focus of the yod, the planet which receives the strong energy of the other planets involved. It also expands the energy of the other planets involved (especially Saturn and Pluto). This yod indicates transformational processes which can be painful for many.
Jupiter has a central place in this because it is the focal point of the energy. This indicates changes in our religious systems, beliefs, philosophical systems. These fall under Jupiter.      


Another notable configuration is the T-square with Neptune as focal point:
  • Jupiter makes a square (90 degree aspect) to Neptune.
  • Neptune makes a square to Venus.
  • Venus opposes Jupiter, this is the central opposition that activates the yod.
Therefore Neptune, the planet of spirituality, ascension, confusion and floods is a cruxial planet in this chart.

THE CHINESE FOUR PILLAR CHART OR THE STORY OF THE TWO DRAGONS
I have made a Chinese Four Pillar Chart. This type of chart contains of four pillars that are dependend upon the hour, day, month and year. Because the hourly pillar depends upon the location I have confined myself to the pillars of the day, month and year. These are the same for the entire world.  In the roots of the chart (the lower part of the pillars) we find a rat that is surrounded by two dragons. The dragons almost seems to be making plans to eat the rat.
The dragon represents the ouroboros, the mythological dragon or snake that bites its own tail. According to Mayan cosmology this ouroboros symbolises the Milky Way.    
The dragon is an earthly sign, the rat is a water sign. Therefore this chart contains water and earth.
In the stems (the top of the chart) we find yang fire. This is the strong fire of the Sun or a natural fire. 
In this chart water is the strongest element. It can be found in the rat and in the two Yang Waters.
A meteorite falling in the ocean would be one expression of this chart. Or a vulcan (fire and earth) exploding and causing a tsunami (water). It could also indicate floods. Water and Earth the strongest elements of this charts are enemies to one another. Since Water is more powerful in the chart, this may indicate largescale floods. Therefore of all the events possible large scale floods are the most likely.   
This is confirmed by the Western chart in which Neptune plays a crucial role.
In my opinion what this chart indicates is that the polluted energy of the collective unconsciousness will turn against humanity. Whatever happens, it will be an expression of the energy that is radiated by a humanity that is unable to live in peace and to make the right choices (for peace, welfare, health and inner spirituality).

2012: Controversy - the Creation Cycles

Over the decades much discussion has focused on finding the exact correlation
between the Mayan Long Count and the Gregorian calendar. Most researchers i
n the field have now come to agree that the so-called GMT correlation, placing
the beginning of the Long Count 4 Ahau 8 Cumku on the Julian day 584 283,
August 11, 3114 BC, is correct. This means by consequence that it will end on 
December 21
, 2012 and most, such as Jose Arguelles, John Jenkins and 
Terence McKenna
, who have taken an interest in the calendar of the Maya,
 have endorsed this date as the end of the current cycle.

THE CROP CIRCLE CONNECTION
The number 26, The Mayan Tzolkin,
and the Grid Crop Circle

In "SC" # 68, Michael Glickman interpreted the 1997 Etchilhampton "Grid" crop formation (above) as a pointer to 2012. The formation was a 30 x 26 checkerboard-like grid, giving a total of 780 squares. This, Michael theorized, could indicate the thirty 26-week periods between 1997 and 2012.
Geoff adds that the 780 squares of the grid are exactly divisible by the TZOLKIN, or Mayan Sacred Calendar, which is a grid of 260 squares with sides of 13 x 20. Three Tzolkins fit into the crop grid pattern. Two fit straight in and the third after bisection.
The grid seems related to a "map" called "Psi Bank Warp and Holonomic Woof" mentioned in a book called "Earth Ascending," by Jose Arguelles (page 121). The "map" consists of eight Tzolkins joined together showing relationships between the Mayan calendar, the "I Ching" and the 64 DNA codons. Arguelles researched the Mayan calendar, physics, philosophy, geomancy and the "I Ching," and concluded that mankind is creating a "noosphere," or mind layer, around the Earth, which is evolving towards the "Omega Point of Planetary Awakening" in 2012, according to Teillard de Chardin.

Controversially appearing over two consecutive nights at Silbury Hill, Wiltshire on 2-3 August, according to resident 2012 prophecy expert and numerical conundrum whiz Geoff Stray, this vast wheel of ancient Maya symbols included “the double square spiral - the Maya symbol for jaguar snouts, which indicates an entrance to the underworld”. Given that, as is now widely known, the Maya calendar indicates an end-of-time point in the year 2012, this gave the UK newspapers something to get their teeth into, the Daily Mail dubiously proclaiming it ‘The Doomsday Crop Circle’. Much of the speculation about the 2012 connections made in the wake of this formation was highly questionable, but it made good headlines. Not that the press needed a genuine phenomenon to fill its columns; indeed the Sunday Express went out of its way to debunk the Mayan glyph, devoting two pages to doing this, perhaps in an effort to ‘get one over’ on its rival newspaper. Among the many claims and counter-claims made about the symbolism of this formation, one widely-circulated e-mail article by C Lewis (pseudonym) from Australia stated the  Mayan wheel depicted a ‘Calendar clock’, counting down to 2012. Joe Mason explains the Aztec Sun Stone Calendar. The outer ring portion of the Stone is said to be twin serpents, one light and the other dark. I believe the two represent the twins, Quetzalcoatl and Xolotl. They relate to Venus, corresponding to The Morning Star and Evening Star. Quetzalcoatl, of course, is also known as Kukulkan (or Kukulcan) and the Feathered Serpent. Perhaps the depiction of two types of feathers in the center of the formation hint at the feathered twins of the Aztecs. They are positioned in a general Vesica Piscis arrangement, also suggestive of duality.

Quetzalcoatl translates to plumed serpent. The word quetzalli eventually came to mean "treasure, or precious". The word coatl came to mean "dragon" as well as "snake" and occasionally "twin", hence it could mean "Precious Twin".

The Dragon is a symbol of Strength, Goodness, Courage and Endurance.
The Dragon is Yang energy which is male. He is the emblem of vigilance and security, and also the spirit of change. In Chinese mythology the Dragon is the predestined partner of the Phoenix, which is Yin energy. Feng Shui endeavours to capture Chi', the Dragon's breath.

We find this interesting parallel in the book of Revelations:
"When the dragon saw that he had been hurled to the earth, he pursued the woman who had given birth to the male child…”
"Then from his mouth the serpent spewed water like a river, to overtake the woman and sweep her away with the torrent. But the earth helped the woman by opening its mouth and swallowing the river that the dragon had spewed out of his mouth.”

Joe Mason,  contributed this excerpt from Moira Timms' book, "Beyond Prophecies and Predictions" (p. 256): "  "The name Quetzalcoatl is derived from the quetzal bird of Guatemala and Mexico. The quetzal had golden-green and scarlet plumage, and was considered the most beautiful of all birds. "Quetzal" also means precious. "Coatl" is serpent. In the Maya language, "Kukulcan" means approximately the same thing. According to Hunbatz Men, "Ku" is sacred, God. "Kul" is coccyx, the base of the spine, where latent spiritual energy resides. "Can" means serpent. "Kukulcan" therefore is synonymous with "kundalini" - which is what the Kukulcan/Quetzalcoatl archetype is all about, of course. To be iconographically correct, however, the god Quetzalcoatl is not himself the feathered serpent, but the one who emerges from the serpent, just as the spirit emerges from the body through the top of the head, and the Morning Star emerges from the horizon."
69 Venus was an important astrological symbol for the Mexica and was called "Tlauixcalpantecuhtli", which means - Lord of the House of Dawn. The planet had two aspects and was shown and revered as two gods. One, as Morning Star, was kind, and was the Precious Twin, Quetzalcoatl. He held the sun in the sky in the morning. His dark twin Xolotl ruled Venus in the Evening and during the night. Xolotl pushed the sun into darkness.
Interestingly, ancient myths tell of the Creator Serpent. James Churchward wrote that this does not represent the Creator, but rather, the way the Creator creates. Joseph Campbell wrote that the ancients usually used the serpent to represent change, by the death/rebirth of shedding the old skin. The symbols seem to tell us that the Creator creates through changes. The Aztec twin serpents fit well with the same meaning.
The outer ring of the "Aztec" crop circle formation has 20 x 2 = 40 segments. I believe this may be related to two interlaced five-pointed stars, as displayed in a number of crop circle formations.
The cropcircleconnector.com people explain: August 4, 2004 Silbury Hill, Wiltshire, England - Whoever, or whatever, is responsible for the August 2 to 3, 2004, crop formation at Silbury Hill, the design in its border is a mirror image of a rare statue of the Aztec God, Xochipilli, The Prince of Flowers, Maizes, Love, Games, Beauty, Song and Dance. Xochi means 'flower,' while pilli means either prince or child. In the mid-1800's, a 16th century Aztec statue of Xochipilli was unearthed on the side of the volcano Popocatapetl near Tlamanalco, Mexico. The statue is of a single figure seated upon a temple-like base.

Both the statue and the base upon which it sits are covered in carvings of sacred and psychoactive flowers including mushrooms (Psilocybe aztecorum), tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum), morning glory (Turbina corymbosa), sinicuichi (Heimia salicifolia), possibly cacahuaxochitl (Quararibea funebris), and one unidentified flower. The figure itself sits crosslegged on the base, head tilted up, eyes open, jaw tensed, with his mouth half open. The statue is currently housed in the Museo Nacional de Anthropologia of Mexico.
 


The ancient Aztec statue's repeating base design of 90-degree mazes back-to-back is similar to, but curving in the opposite direction of, the August 3, 2004, border at Silbury Hill.

Historically, the Aztec name for the huge basaltic monolith is Cuauhxicalli Eagle Bowl, but it is universally known as the Aztec Calendar or Sun Stone. It was during the reign of the 6th Aztec monarch in 1479 that this stone was carved and dedicated to the principal Aztec deity: the sun. The stone has both mythological and astronomical significance. It weighs almost 25 tons, has a diameter of just under 12 feet, and a thickness of 3 feet.
The Mexicans, as all other Meso-Americans, believed in the periodic destruction and re-creation of the world. The "Calendar Stone" in the Museo Nacional de Antropología (National Museum of Anthropology) in Mexico City depicts in its central panel the date 4 Ollin (movement), on which they anticipated that their current world would be destroyed by earthquake, and within it the dates of previous holocausts: 4 Tiger, 4 Wind, 4 Rain, and 4 Water. .
Every 52 years the tonalpohualli and the xiuhpohualli calendars would align. This marked what was known as a Mesoamerican "century."
Tonatiuh's Face is the face of the sun, Lord of Heaven, around which takes place all daily and periodic phenomena.
First ring from Center. Four Ollin representing the Earthquake Epoch or Sun. The four epochs represented inside the square portions of this symbol correspond to the four previous epochs also called suns.
Second Ring - The second ring from the center is composed of 20 named days contained in one month, also used for naming years. Each year starts on one of four of these 20 days.
The Calendar date '4 Ollin' will be in 2012. Actually I made a mistake, in that only 19 fine lines show up for each inner clock-hand, not 20 (couldn't see from early photos)!  
Hence the inner calendar actually reads (6 + 6).19.19 = 12.19.19 rather than 12.20.20 = 13.0.0 as for any full Sun of 5200 years. That is like writing "999" just before "1000", and means (like on the outer dial) that the end of the Fourth Sun is near: but only one year and not 8.67?  
Alternatively, something important might be scheduled to happen next year (at the end of 2005), then something again in December 2012? A lot of intellectual content for a fake! Some additional physical or testimonial evidence is perhaps needed

The Morning Star and the Evening Star  both refer to Venus. 
Venus also makes a star-shaped figure in space as it revolves around the sun.

This crop circle is communicating harmomics of the "Time of the Sixth Sun" we are currently in the Fifth Sun time era. 
Compare this Crop circle to the Sixth Sun "DreamStar" tone systems diagram see attached Link - notice in the crop circle there are 16 small squares that form the large square outside in the  image. 
In the Crop circle "Inner circle" there is a Six pointed Star like star of David points=Six and Star=Sun thus means "Sixth Sun" the time era coming upon the completion of this current 5th Sun. These six points form the 6 suns/worlds/eras:
sun 1 - nahui Ocelotl (jaguars)
sun 2 - nahui Ehecatl (wind)
sun 3 - nahui Quiahuitl (rain)
sun 4 - nahui Atl (water)
sun 5 - nahui Ollin (earth movements - our current age)
sun 6 - nahui Xochitl (sun of flowering) 
This "Inner circle" of this crop circle forms the 17th "Never-ending" position in the "DreamStar" Sixth Sun
Also notice in the crop circle the relationship of the circle (sphere) and the square (cube) and that these Crop circles are GREEN

You will notice many crop circles have harmonics that appear related.
The Mayan periods/cycles of Time known as SUNS. Some sources cite we are in 4th Sun and some cite 5th Sun. These are the same depending upon if you start counting at "zero" or "one"
start at Zero: 0 1 2 3 (4) 5
  start at One:  1 2 3 4 (5) 6 
We are currently in the (4)th or (5)th SUN depending upon where start counting. And we are moving into either the (5)th or (6)th SUN/world again depending on where you start counting.
Best guess is that we are entering SIXTH SUN according to Maya 2012 date. The image shows but one of them is a shift or change in the harmonics of creation. Some Crop Circles are communicating this shift/change. 
The current Mayan Tzolkin has 13 tones and the Sixth Sun Tzolkin has 17 tones. These numbers 13 and 17 can be found in various Crop Circles. As other related numbers like the "center" number [7] or [9]. Which are the center tones of each tzolkin respectively.

Mayan glyph 
In The Mayan Factor by José Arguelles, we understand that LAMAT marks the beginning of the final AHAU cycle which includes all 13 Katuns.  This final cycle is a culmination of the Baktun of the Transformation of Matter and began in the year 1756 to be completed in the year 2012.  The energy of LAMAT is to ‘Seal [the whole mind of the world] with the Star-Seed Harmony’.  LAMAT heralds a new way of living on Earth and a new experience and understanding of material life, including our own bodies.  This is certainly reflected in the beautiful and elegant symmetry of this crop circle. 
On top of all that, the particular shape of the formation is also found in a symbol for Mother Mary, an ancient Goddess figure, as well as a venerated Christian icon.

 In this symbol, we see references to the four solar turning-points of the year, as well as the lunar aspects (dark and light circles), rendering Her, Lady of All the World.  An interesting point is that LAMAT as a word stands for ‘rabbit’ which is also a long-standing symbol for the Goddess.
